		<description><![CDATA[JAST is pleased to announce that the Mitsui USA Scholarships in Tennessee Program, now in its tenth year, will continue this year in support of the aspirations of globally-minded high school seniors across the state. Four $5000 freshman-year scholarships will be funded and awarded to successful applicants who plan to enroll in a four-year public college or university within the State of Tennessee’s Board of Regents or University of Tennessee systems. Applications must be postmarked no later than May 31, 2013, to be considered by the Scholarship Review Committee. 		<description><![CDATA[The Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 23rd, 2013 at Nashville’s Public Square. The Festival is a family-friendly celebration of Japanese culture, featuring traditional Japanese performances, crafts, food booths, children&#8217;s activities and more. Organized and sponsored by Japan-America Society of Tennessee, the Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville and the Office of Mayor Karl Dean, Festival proceeds benefit the mission to plant 1,000 cherry trees &#8211; 100 each spring for 10 years &#8211; to help beautify Nashville&#8217;s landscape. 		<description><![CDATA[Saturday April 6, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Nashville, TN &#160; Students of Japanese language from across the state compete for top prizes at this annual contest.  Previous grand prize winners have received two round-trip air tickets to Japan sponsored by American Airlines and a $500 travel stipend provided by MR Japanese/Project Staffing of Murfreesboro, TN.  Winning contestants in each of three levels have also received cash awards and prizes sponsored by Mitsui USA, Bridgestone Americas, Nissan, Toshiba, and the Consulate General of Japan, among others.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[We are pleased to announce that the 35th Annual Joint Meeting of the Southeast-U.S./Japan and the Japan-U.S. Southeast Associations will take place September 13-15, 2012, at The Imperial Hotel Tokyo. Prospective delegates from the seven member states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee are encouraged to mark their calendars and make plans to attend.  Invitations are issued by each state, and delegations are typically led by their governors. Arnett the prestigious decoration, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to promoting friendly relations between Japan and the United States. The decoration is conferred by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. The Order of the Rising Sun was established in 1875 as the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese Government. The decoration is bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to positive relations between Japan and other countries.
